BRUNEIAN MIFFED OVER THE DEROGATORY REMARKS ON HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN

As a Bruneians, I would like to express my unhappiness and deepest regret over the the statement written and posted by DontPlayGod and published in MalaysiaToday under the title “RPK to Shariah Lawyers: don’t mess with us”, dated 28 August 2009, which insulted the good names of our Sultan and Yang DiPertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam.

The derogatory remarks which had tarnished the reputation of Brunei Darussalam and His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam and such remarks are very sensitive and will affect Brunei’s friendship and could damaging to Brunei-Malaysia relationship.

We Bruneian respect the Malaysian Democracy System of Government and its people, and at the same time we expect the people of Malaysia will also respect us, especially our system of Government, Although the people of Malaysia practice their democracy right, it does not mean that they have their right to insult the good names our Ruler.

The people of Brunei Darussalam had never made derogatory statements on Malaysia, and neither has ever interfered in the affairs of the country. We have only observed and have never commented on issues relating to Rulers of Malaysia

I do believe ‘DontPlayGod’ is a member of Malaysia Today, and Malaysia Today.net as the publisher were also hold the responsibility for allowing such derogatory remarks to be published in their Blog.

Unless the Writer (DontPlayGod) and the Publisher (the Malaysia Today) could produce the purported evidence of the alleged remarks within the time frame, we will decide the next course of actions, which could include defamation suits against both parties.

We will not drop the matter unless the Malaysian Government take on the matter seriously and to take action prompt.

For the record, this is the 3rd times such derogatory remarks on our Ruler had made by the foreign media, First in 1999 The Harakah report on the allegation made by the Deputy Minister in Prime Minister Office, Dato Ibrahim Ali, Second in the year 2001 the contains of ‘the White Book’ published by FKB DPR the party members belong to Bapak AbdulRahman (Gusdur) the ex-President of Republic of Indonesia and Third remarks published by Malaysia Today.net

On the behalf of the people of Brunei Darussalam, I will submit a protest letter to the Malaysia Prime Minister through Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam.
